Hezbollah Rejects One-Sided Ceasefire

(MENAFN) Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah issued a firm warning Monday that no "one-sided" ceasefire would hold in Lebanon, declaring there would be "no return" to the conditions that prevailed before March 2 — setting a defiant tone as diplomatic efforts intensify around a fragile halt to hostilities.

Speaking to Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV, Fadlallah said the Lebanese position now demands a comprehensive ceasefire "by land, air, and sea" as a prerequisite for Israeli withdrawal and the return of displaced residents to their villages in the south.

He stressed that the stance had been communicated to all relevant parties and must be accompanied by a "clear and explicit" Israeli commitment, alongside an immediate halt to the destruction of homes across southern Lebanon.

Fadlallah signaled conditional willingness to honor any deal — but only on equal terms. He said Hezbollah would abide by any agreement once Israel commits to it, stressing that the group would not accept "one-sided" adherence to a ceasefire. He also attributed a shift in the trajectory of negotiations to Iranian pressure and threats to suspend talks altogether.

The remarks followed an announcement by US President Donald Trump, who said Monday that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to halt attacks against each other following contacts through intermediaries. Trump said he had held contacts through intermediaries with both sides and received assurances that "all shooting will stop."

The diplomatic flurry comes amid persistent Israeli strikes on Lebanon despite a truce that took effect on April 17 — subsequently extended for 45 days through indirect US-mediated negotiations.

The human toll of the conflict continues to mount. Lebanon's Health Ministry reports that more than 3,400 people have been killed in attacks since March 2.
